"THE MAN WHO LAUGHS - JOKER"

This is my tribute to the 1928 film adaption of Victor Hugo's novel 'The Man Who Laughs' (Directed by Paul Leni). Gwynplaine was tragically disfigured by the Comprachicos to live the remainder of his life with a permanent grin etched upon his face. Conrad Veidt's portrayal was heartbreaking and sympathetic as he longed for the affection of the blind Dea. The Joker however is rather opposite in character of Conrad Veidt's portrayal of the sympathetic Gwynplaine. I imagine if he had played a Joker it may have looked something like this.
